Rest In Love, Shelby
It was our last full day in Ireland. We were getting ready to catch the tour bus to head out for Giant's Causeway. I was checking my phone one last time with wifi before we left. There have been a couple moments where I have wished I had just waited to check my phone when we got back instead of before we left. The news I saw on my Facebook newsfeed was devastating. Shelby Seabaugh had passed away. "Wait, isn't she only 21," I thought to myself. I was sure they had the wrong person. Maybe it's just an early April Fools?? Nope. None of those things. She had passed away in her sleep Wednesday night. But I just talked to her a couple weeks ago! How did this come up so sudden!? All these questions started running through my head. I had no idea what was going on, and I couldn't receive/make calls or texts because I didn't have an international plan on my cell. I just wanted to be with my Camp Siloam family in that very instant. I stopped and prayed. I prayed for Shelby's family. I prayed for my camp family. I prayed for God to be magnified in her passing. I just prayed.
See, I know where Shelby is. I need not fear that she is in a bad place because I knew her and the life she lived. It was very evident that she walked closely with the Lord. It shined ever so brightly through her life and that huge smile she always had on her face. Today, at her funeral, it finally had set in that she was gone. There were lots of tears shed, but there were also many laughs had as well.
I stood and watched all the Camp Siloam staff that attended the funeral today as we all started saying goodbyes and see you later's. I just smiled as everyone was hugging, smiling, catching up on life, and just loving on one another during the time of our loss of a friend and sister in Christ. I just could not get over how amazing our God is and the fact that He brought all these random college students together the past two summers I have served at Siloam and made us all one huge, tight knit family! I know that no matter what, they got my back and will be there to share along in my burdens as I would do the same for each and every one of them.
Just never take for granted the people in your life. We aren't promised tomorrow. So be intentional in everything you do. Do it as if it were your last day to live. Don't hold anything back! Pour it all out because God will fill you up for the next day! Take the time to say I love you. Don't rush your life away! Take your time and enjoy the day you are given then and there. I don't want to live life with tons of regrets or thoughts of I could have said this or I should have done that. Leave it all on the court!
God gave His all to us by sending His one and only Son to die on the cross for our sins! Shelby lived by that on a daily basis! She will be greatly missed by all, but we have joy knowing where she is. I want to celebrate her death not live in constant sorrow over it! She is dancing at the feet of the One she loved and served obediently!
To all those who read this, I love you, but more importantly God loves you!
